Book Club
December 17th @ 6pm
Hello again everyone! If you enjoy great company, food and beverage, the Wednesday Book and Wine Club is for you. On November 19th, we discussed “The Measure” by Nikki Erlick. As the story begins, it seems like any other day. You wake up, drink a cup of coffee, and head out. But today, when you open your front door, waiting for you is a small wooden box that contains a string that specifies the exact number of years you will live. Everyone faces the same shocking choice: Do they wish to know how long they’ll live? And, if so, what will they do with that knowledge? The story follows eight characters as they navigate the profound choices and societal changes that arise from knowing their life expectancy. The group enjoyed a lively discussion about the controversial topic, including why we did or did not like or even read the book!
On December 17th, we will gather for our holiday party at which we will host a book swap. If you want to participate in the swap, please bring a wrapped favorite book that you want to introduce to someone else. The goal is to share a book that the Wine and Book Club has not read. Reach out to Heather Schadt if you need a list of previously read books.
We hope you can join us for a fun evening of food, drinks, laughs and books!

Lit Happens
December 9th @ 5pm
The Lit Happens book club met on November 11th to review “The Accidental President” by A.J. Laine. The book delves into the first four months of Truman’s administration which saw the founding of the United Nations, the fall of Berlin, victory at Okinawa, fire bombings in Tokyo, the first atomic explosion, the Nazi surrender, the liberation of concentration camps, the mass starvation in Europe, the Potsdam Conference, the controversial decision to bomb Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the surrender of imperial Japan, and finally, the end of World War II and the rise of the Cold War. No other president had ever faced so much in such a short period of time, they were four months “that changed the world”. The book showed Truman’s humble beginnings and that although he lacked experience and education, through his belief in fundamental truths and common sense, he was a decisive leader. All book club members decided this book is a “must read”!
The list of the books to the left, one selected by each club member, that will be read in the coming year.
December 9th, we will kick off the holiday season with a gift exchange. Please bring a wrapped book, either new or used, or a book related gift. We will play a gift exchange game while dining and drinking with friends. Lit Happens meets the second Tuesday of each month.
